Key takeaways
- Insuresoft’s Diamond platform puts policy, claims, billing, agent and policyholder portals, data and reinsurance in one system.
- It covers personal, commercial and farm lines, so a carrier does not need a different system for each.
- Insuresoft focuses on tier three, four and five carriers, which Copenhaver said are often underserved.
- State-by-state rules sit in a configurable layer on top of a shared core.
- The platform runs on Microsoft Azure in the cloud, and Copenhaver said it is SOC 2 compliant.
What is Insuresoft?
Insuresoft, with an office in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, sells Diamond, which it calls an all-in-one platform for property and casualty insurers. The company says Diamond was built in house as one system from the ground up, not stitched together from acquisitions.
Copenhaver described it simply: “a holistic system.” Policy, claims and billing, an agent portal, an insured portal, a built-in data warehouse and reinsurance all live in one place. The point, he said, is that a carrier does not have to “buy a bunch of best of breed” tools and then try to make them work together.
Why focus on smaller carriers?
Insuresoft targets tier three, four and five carriers, mostly the smaller ones. Copenhaver said these insurers are often underserved, and Insuresoft wants to give them a real option. For a small mutual or regional carrier, buying separate systems for personal lines, commercial lines and farm lines can be out of reach. Diamond is built to handle every P&C line in one system.
How does one system handle 50 sets of state rules?
Every state sets its own rules, so I asked how one platform copes. Copenhaver said all clients share the same core system. On top of it sits a custom layer, where each carrier configures the system for the states it writes in and the lines of business it offers. The core stays common. The differences live in configuration.
Why it matters for insurers
Smaller carriers face the same pressure to modernize as the giants, with a fraction of the budget and staff. One platform with a shared core and a configuration layer is one practical way to keep up without running a dozen vendors.
ZERO LEGACY, from Zero Legacy Press, looks at the same choice every carrier faces when it replaces an old core system: what to build, what to buy, and what to leave behind. Read about the book
